Meredith McCarron, co-founder of MK Analytics, Inc., boasts over a decade of technical prowess in litigation and investigations. She has acted as consulting and testifying expert on a number of matters involving large-scale, unstructured data, including the Social Media Adolescent Addiction litigation. Merry also leads firearms tracing work, in partnership with several not-for-profit and government agencies. Her work on firearms trafficking has received national recognition, including her co-authored report “Target on Trafficking: New York Crime Gun Analysis,” which was featured on the front-page of the “New York Daily News” and cited by the Journal of Urban Health, Data-Smart City Solutions, and the Rockefeller Institute.


Before co-founding MKA, Meredith served as a Data Scientist for the New York State Office of the Attorney General (NYAG), where her innovative contributions were vital to a variety of cases spanning the Civil Rights Division, Health Care Bureau, Internet and Technology Bureau, and Labor Bureau. Her groundbreaking work earned her the "Innovation in Law Enforcement Award" in 2016 and the "Superior Service Award" in 2017. She has been invited to speak on topics including graph database network analysis at the 2024 Neo4J NODES Conference and on the emergent roles of generative AI at the 2024 Motley Rice PIC Conference.

CLIENT WORK AND ENGAGEMENTS

  • Testified as an expert witness on the Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation (ongoing litigation: MDL No. 3047).

  • Filed expert analysis and was deposed In re. Google Generative AI Copyright Litigation (ongoing litigation: Case No. 5:23-cv-03440-EKL).

  • Served as a principal contributor and consulting expert in the National Opiate Litigation.

  • Served as an expert witness in mass tort cases, including class certification in Sohmer et al v. United Healthcare (United States District Court For The District Of Minnesota) and damages assessment in  Aquilina et al v. Lloyd's London (United States District Court For The District Of Hawaii).

  • Led firearms tracing work, leveraging experience at the NYAG and expertise in multiple firearms datasets, including eTrace, National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), and ShotSpotter data. Developed a real-time software application with funding for Everytown for Gun Safety for law enforcement agencies to detect trends, patterns, outliers, and red flags in firearms trafficking data, currently in use by several uniformed officers from the Baltimore Police Department and the Illinois Office of the Attorney General.

  • Worked extensively with the NYAG Bureau of Internet and Technology on cases and investigations including: 

    • Identifying networks of thousands of fake “bot” accounts on a prominent social network, impersonating real users of the platform

    • Identifying millions of fraudulent submissions to FCC public comment filings on Net Neutrality and analyzed the similarity to identities that had been leaked on Dark Web data breach sites

    • Investigations of cryptocurrency exchanges and so-called “stablecoin” currencies

  • Served as the principal data scientist in a landmark case with Time Warner Cable, resolving claims of unreliable and subpar internet service provision to customers.

  • Headed data science efforts against brokers of foreign exchange currency options, leading to guilty pleas to charges of securities fraud.

  • Worked closely with the NYAG/NYSP Organized Crime Task Force and a national anti-human-trafficking non-profit organization to create a graph database lead-generation tool for sex trafficking investigations.

  • Created an automated monitoring system to identify discrimination in rental property postings against tenants with Section 8 Vouchers in several housing markets around the country, leading to ongoing legal action against discriminatory landlords.

  • Was the primary driver of the team that relaunched NYOpengovernment.com, a joint project between the NYAG and New York University to improve transparency and accountability in government that earned her a personal commendation from the NYAG for her work as part of the student team that redesigned the site.

  • Contributed significantly to the case against landlord Steven Croman, bringing about improved oversight and management for over 100 Croman properties.

  • Co-authored the report “Target on Trafficking: New York Crime Gun Analysis,” earning a front-page feature in the New York Daily News and citations from notable entities like the Journal of Urban Health, Data-Smart City Solutions, the American Medical Association, and the Rockefeller Institute

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Holds a Master of Science in Applied Informatics from New York University.

  • Served as research assistant at NYU CUSP in development of a methodology to geolocate Twitter users who were likely New York City residents

  • Before joining the NYAG, Meredith was a Reporting Officer at charity: water. In this international non-profit organization, she managed a complex system connecting tens of thousands of donors and fundraisers with nearly a thousand water projects.
